Samenvatting
“But did you tell him to stop” is a guide on how to deal with sexual crimes such as rape. Not only does it tackle rape myths, but it also gives thorough insides on why men and women rape, what consent is and how to protect yourself from getting raped (spoiler alert: you can’t).
Over de auteur
Nien is a twenty-something recent graduate with a Master degree in Criminology. She’s a feminist who loves reading, writing and drinking cheap red wine (preferably while reading or writing). She was part of the Northern Ireland Court Observers Panel (Victim Support NI) in 2019. During this time, a Supreme Court judge told her that her dissertation on the use of rape myths in court would be part of a movement that would change the world. This book is Nien’s way of trying to do just that.

Inkijk
We blame victims more often than we actually think. I assume most of us have seen a scary movie before. It’s not uncommon to blame ‘the best friend of the main character who is very open about her sexuality’ for making a not so smart decision. When she dies, we say things like “well she basically ran into the arms of the serial killer”, “she was kind of bitchy so she deserves it”, “she shouldn’t have gone to the attic”. It’s almost as if we blame her more for her death than we blame the guy with the chainsaw.
