Midnight Stars

A girl called Ally moves to California together with her mom and her little sister Ava. It’s the perfect chance to start over; new friends, a new house and a new state. But nobody knows Ally lives with a big secret, a secret she likes to keep to herself. When she runs into Isaac who went to her former high school in Chicago, everything changes. Ally will do anything to keep him quiet. In the meantime, some things don’t go according to plan. Will she be able to keep him satisfied or will the truth reveal itself?

Naomi Kiekens is a creative girl from The Netherlands. While growing up, Naomi always loved to write and since a few years she has also developed a passion for reading. She started writing ‘Midnight Stars’ when she was only fourteen years old and finished writing it when she just turned sixteen. Naomi always fantasized about being an author herself. She is currently studying social work in Leiden and hopes to be able to help people in the future, which can be both through books as in person.

“Isaac, I dare you to spend seven minutes in heaven with the red head behind you.” Isaac and the girl walk upstairs. Everyone looks at how they disappear. It makes me cringe a little to see them walk upstairs together.

“Ally, why don’t you tell us what you fear most of.” Lola says.

“My biggest fear? I don’t have any fears.” I lie.

“Everyone fears something.” She says, looking right through me.

“Jamie, I dare you to take a shot.” I say, ignoring her.

After it was Jamie’s turn, I didn’t pay much attention anymore.

“Ally, it’s your turn. You can dare someone or let someone tell the truth.” Christina says.

“Lola, why do you hate Alexa so much?” I ask. The whole room turns quiet. All eyes are focused on Lola and me.

“I’ll tell you, but maybe you’d like to tell everyone about your family first. For example, where is your dad? He’s in prison right?” Everyone looks at me. I keep quiet and walk up the stairs to find a bathroom.

“Are you okay?” Isaac asks as I run into him.

“Yeah. Perfect.” I say as I wipe away a tear under my eye. I walk further and I find a bathroom. I lock the door. Lola is the worst. How did she even know my dad is in prison? She probably googled my last name. I look at the time on my phone. It’s 12.10 AM.

“Ally?” I hear someone calling my name while knocking on the door. I open the door and see Jess standing in front of me.

“Hey. Are you okay?” He asks and I nod.

“I’m leaving. I thought you might want to leave too after everything that happened with Lola. I can drop you off at your house.”

“Oh, that’s really sweet of you, but I came with Christina. So I guess I’ll just ask her. I don’t want to be rude and drive home with someone else.”

“Oh, okay. I guess I’m going then.” He says.
