Bijna ongelooflijk dat je dit in je eentje hebt ondernomen. Het plan, de uitvoering en dan, die realiteit. Prachtig geschreven waarbij menig traantje ging vloeien door achterop je fiets te springen en de hele reis mee te mogen maken via je boek.
Samenvatting
After some recent events in her life, Sharon decides to go on a cycling trip in England. The moment she lands in the country of tea, rain and British politeness, things start rolling. Quite literally. She manages to earn the respect of the locals and cycle through all kinds of weather. On the bicycle, like a real Dutchie. Back on Gloucester Road, I entered the urban area around Bristol. The traffic increased and so did the complexity of buildings. Soon, I had been travelling for about three to four hours, instead of the planned two. My legs felt completely limp at this point. I came across an industrial area and an airfield and eventually in something that looked like the outskirts of a city. I just need to cross this city and I'm done, I told myself, but even as I repeated that to myself, I severely doubted my ability to do so. I kept going, even as Gloucester Road led me back up another hill. Great. My legs couldn't take it, and I saw how steep it would be. This was the first time I felt beat, completely and utterly defeated. It's easy to forget you're carrying all that luggage around, and as someone who cycles everyday, you just think you're able to do it, but you don't think about the huge load you’ll be carrying. A few tears escaped my eyes, and I angrily stopped. I sat down on a wall and cursed myself for giving up, but also reasoning with myself about why. I was drained, empty and suddenly emotional. However, there was really no time to be a snivelling mess, so I quickly pushed to make myself think clearly. I obviously wasn’t going to make it to southern Bristol, so I had to think creatively.
