Samenvatting

Alexander, Breanna and Koen are three ordinary humans until they get attacked by angels one day. Since then, nothing has been the same. What do their visions mean? Where do their supernatural abilities come from? Who is the mysterious Chrys Baine really? When they go looking for the reason behind their rapidly decaying bodies, they embark on a quest that leads them to the truth behind Creation, the Apocalypse, the human soul and even death itself.

Over de auteur

Vincent Cedric Poinet (Leuven, 1991) has been fascinated with literature since he was very young. He especially admires the work of English fantasy writers like Brandon Sanderson, Robert Jordan and Dan Simmons. He began writing himself when he was 15, and spent the following years pursuing his life-long dream of seeing his own work published. After secondary school he studied Philosophy, History and Theology at the Catholic University of Leuven. He lives in Kessel-Lo and spends most of his waking hours reading, playing music and teaching Catholicism to third graders.

Inkijk

‘So if those portals are opening again,’ Finet murmured, ‘where does that leave us?’

‘It leaves us with the endgame,’ Athanasia said. ‘Now that this realm – the plane of Phusikon – is accessible again, it’s vulnerable to attack from both Michael and Azrael. They will send angels. Small parties at first, to scout and to refamiliarise themselves with this world. Then they will send their harvesters through en masse, to reap until not one human is left. It will be an arms race of souls, as the Archangel holding the most will have a distinct advantage when Michael and Azrael face each other a final time. Thus the Battle of Eden and the Horsemen’s Rebellion will finally reach their conclusion. Mankind will be exterminated, the last of us Ensouled will be hunted down and killed, and angel unity will finally be restored as one Archangel kills the other. And there shall be peace and paradise once more. Or so Michael would have us believe.’ Athanasia’s face twisted in a way that told Breanna what she herself thought of that. ‘Is this the end of the world, you ask? The truth is that we don’t know. It will be an end – the end of the world as you know it, as mankind discovers the existence of angels and demons once more. The angels call these times the Final Reckoning. The Djinn call it the Ad’Tel’Megdo. You know it as Armageddon, or the Apocalypse, or the End of Days. To us Ensouled it is the Third Judgement – the Final Judgement, when the final verdict of human’s worthiness will be cast. There will be war and death and suffering on a scale that your kind cannot even begin to imagine. It means the butchering of millions, billions.’ Athanasia looked down, looming over them from the steps like an inevitable spectre of fate. ‘It will be the final war – the war to end all wars. And it is here.’
