you paint your portrait with your soul
not with your mind
to see yourself as a whole
not a shiny price
perfection kills beauty
it's unique tenderness
as we all try to become
what a photo says
yet this is a moment
a briefness in time
thinking this is all
the worth we go by
what a world we'd live in
if we'd perfect ourselves so soon
to be praised by everyone
like a single floating balloon
drifting away
without a single flaw
how boring that must be
to be done with it all
you are the canvas
you are the painter
and the art isn't finished
until death has acquainted
art doesn't stop
not from the soul
it's forever changing habits
will forever be our soil
before we seek for beauty
to be a plant so evergreen
shape it from the soil
because that's all you'll ever be
now grow
