Summary

Power & Equality is a philosophical book. Jeroen Roelfs wants to change our perspectives on power and equality. It is his belief that power structures are inherently unfair. Roelfs argues that power structures should always be dismantled when possible. Power leads to abuse of power. When positions of power are necessary, power should be used in a positive way. The writer believes this to be true on the smallest and largest of scales.

From the book

Hope
Hope inspires us that things will work out for the better. People can be influenced with hope to have a positive outlook on people and events. Hope is a pleasant feeling and for his reason we like people who give us hope. We admire people who give us hope because they bring some happiness into our lives and make us feel optimistic about the future. And because of this pleasant feeling, people that bring hope can move societies as a whole. However, I believe that there are very few people that can inspire hope in others. And because it is so rare, this is why people believe in religion, because it promises us a better life.
