Samenvatting

The Dutch Connection’ is a gruesome, but intriguing thriller. The plot revolves around a secret bond to the drug underworld. As it unfolds, a web of deception and betrayals is revealed.
The lovers involved are killers, but morally simpatico. The alluring Margot owns a bed and breakfast and is a sometime hit woman. Her Latin lover Julio is an ambitious, barely literate, drug dealer who seeks to avenge the paradoxical murder of his younger brother Emilio.
The mix of harshly calibrated characters, Dutch, Pakistani and Arab, becomes volatile as Emilio’s killer is revealed and the Dutch cartel falls apart.

Over de auteur

"As an enterprising ‘hard studying’ medical student at the University of Amsterdam, I necessarily felt the need for a refreshing pils a couple of times a week.  I discovered, in a side street of the Leidseplein, the most wonderful bar, called ‘Eijlders’. There I met a  KLM air hostess whose weekly run was to Karachi. Over drinks, she regaled me with stories of the drug world. This was the basis for 'The Dutch Connection'."

Inkijk

They stayed like that for an hour and then some, intermittently napping in after-sex sleep that is like no other. She awakened first.
Suddenly movement and light exploded into the room.
"Caramba!"
"Oh shit!"
She had given Julio the key and he had closed the door but failed to lock it as she had unzipped his fly and grabbed his cock so quickly that there wasn’t time.
There were two of them.
One went directly for her purse hanging on the near bed post; it held the bundle of Euros from the transaction. The other, snake quick, threw a knife at Julio who was amazingly fast and shot him right through Angela Merkel’s forehead, the .357’s hollow point making a sizable hole in his chest, splitting the breastbone and emptying his life.
Margot winged the other man with her short barrel, and Julio pushed him to the floor.
"Who do you work for? A little prick like you would never dare this alone."
Julio was choking him hard, both thumbs pressing on his Adam’s apple, his long fingers encircling the perp’s neck. It was a struggle for the man to get any words out.
"Let up on him a bit, he’s suffocating," Margot said.
Julio kept one knee pressed against the perp’s chest but eased back on his throat.
"I’m with the del Rio Cartel, out of Venezuela, we’re the ones that…"
Suddenly Margot pivots, and in a smooth practiced motion, shoots him in the temple, stopping him from saying another word.
Julio lets go of the man as if he were caught holding damaged goods. He stands up:
"Geezus, what the hell! You didn’t have to kill him; why did you do that? He was about to spill!"
"Because he would have told you something I need to tell you. Something you’ve got to hear from me…please sit down…"
