Inkijk

Far from Kirkglass, in a decent part of Edinburgh, Cat met her friends at Fiona’s. ‘You’re quiet tonight Cat’, Eve her long-time colleague said to her. ‘Would you like the usual ?’

’Yes Eve, a glass of Chardonnay will do.’ While Eve saw to the drinks, Fiona was preparing some snacks in the old fashioned kitchen. It had been a busy week. Being on her own, she realized what Ian meant to her. He wasn’t perfect, far from that, but she could rely on him. In no time it would be Saturday. Catriona was already looking forward to being reunited with the love of her life. Maybe they could go out for a meal, just the two of them.

Thursday March 13 2014, Kirkglass.

At about 7.15 p.m. Ian went to Sue’s Chippie . He didn’t feel like walking a mile, so he took his mountain bike. Outside it had started to drizzle and a cold wind blew from the East, probably coming from the North Sea. Ian ordered two different pies and chips. As it wasn’t busy he was served quickly. He took a seat in the fish and chips shop’s corner. The steaming hot pies tasted delicious, the chips were of average quality. Tomorrow would be his last day in the North. Saturday he would return to Catriona. He was thinking of calling her in Heather Brae later that night.

At the time when Ian was having supper, Stuart was driving through Kirkglass’s centre. No trace of that sod, Stuart reckoned. Anyway, he had no choice, he couldn’t give up looking for him. Every day counted, sooner or later Ian might go to the police, and the consequences could only be guessed.
