“Beyond The Mirror” is a dream diary transformed into a modern, cosmopolitan story about four people from Ex-Yugoslavian countries coming together against the surrealistic background of Amsterdam. Two women in the quest for love. An overly educated, pampered loner and her nomadic friend as her trusted advisor. Two men, a controversial historian and an ex-drummer, unexpectedly appear after the girls perform a carelessly devised ritual resulting in all sorts of ill-conceived but humorous encounters. Is the way they meet in a foreign country accidental? They might have stumbled on something more ancient, stemming from the time hidden from their historical records. And what is the common thread underlying their interactions now that the country no longer exists for over a decade?

Over de auteur

Marija Jevrosimović was born in Belgrade (1975) where she finished her Master degree in technical sciences. She came to the Netherlands for her PhD thesis and fell in love with Amsterdam. Currently, she is an independent business coach and a creative writer. Writing is her way of searching for deeper meanings of our identities beyond the accepted norms. She sees the international nature of Amsterdam as a background scene for waking up mythic origins as people are removed from their original environment of conditioning. Several years of intuitive development and learning ancient traditions inspired her lucid dreaming, adding an element of phantasy to her writing. Her vision is to use the power of the story to find wisdom already present in the reader.

Beyond the mirror is an intriguing and thought provoking debut novel. On the surface, a story of the trials and tribulations of modern day romance, with modern day lives against a backdrop of modern day cities, but there are so many more layers to discover.
Touching on elements of spiritualism, mythic origins, lucid dreaming and ancient cultures, the book explores much deeper topics.
It is a book that merits multiple readthroughs with each journey into the pages revealing an undiscovered and subtle nuance to the reader.
The storyline draws the reader further and at the end, you want to know more and leaves you pondering 'what next'.

Very enjoyable book describing the search of true love which leads the main character on a journey full of funny episodes, characters and dialogues where the oneiric dimension is alternating with reality.
